Utilizing discretionary advertising revenue from the ExploreAsheville.com website, the BCTDA developed a Festivals and Cultural Events Support Fund in early 2016. The grant program is a mechanism to foster those festivals and cultural events that serve Buncombe County residents as well as visitors to the area. The primary purposes of the fund are:
- To support and preserve cultural identity within Buncombe County
- To stimulate the creation of new or expansion of existing resident- and tourist-friendly events
- To help local festivals and cultural events become sustainable and financially viable
To qualify for a BCTDA sponsorship as a major event, it must be recognized as an important event, manifested through attendance numbers and the exposure provided to the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority. You must make a case that your event qualifies as such an important event. Otherwise, you should request a $1,000 grant for your event. See Program Guide and Application for further details. For 2020 applications, your event must be physically located in Buncombe County and must occur in the 2021 calendar year. Funds are available only to non-profits chartered in Buncombe County and local governments. Grants will be provided to the applicant following the conclusion of the event. Grant funds will not be released for events that are cancelled for any reason.
